Fred Reed Obituary

Fred Eugene Reed was born near Miller, Oklahoma, Pushmataha County, on October 6, 1930, to Fred and Ercelle (Johnson) Reed. He graduated from Moyers Public Schools in 1947 and went on to graduate from the University of Southeast Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1951. He then completed post-graduate studies at the University of Houston and University of Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at the Fifth Army Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion of his military service, Fred worked for Conoco Petroleum Company for 40 years until his retirement. His career with Conoco sent him around the world to Western Canada, Alaska, Columbia, South America, England, Scotland and the Netherlands.

After retiring, Fred offered his services as a geologist to the British Crown. He traveled each summer to the British Isles where he assisted in completing environmental assessment of the English, Welsh and Scottish coastline. In his spare time, he did extensive volunteer work for the Midland, Texas Library and Pushmataha County Historical Society. He continued his international travels with his brother and best friend, Lloyd, and pursued his passion for genealogy. Many of these trips were not only used for sight-seeing but tracking down information about family history. Some of the information acquired on these adventures was published into a book on the Johnson Family Tree.

Fred never married and was deeply devoted to his family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ercelle Reed, and brother Lloyd Reed. He is survived by his niece, Michelle, and her husband, Tony Mitchell, and their four children, Reed, Jazlynn, Anna and Braylon, of Edmond.

The family has requested donations, either monetary or nonperishable food items, be made to the Antlers Community Food Bank Ministry.

Services for Fred will be held January 26, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Serenity Funeral Service Chapel.
