Joy Clark Obituary

On Sunday, December 23, 2018 Joy Clark passed away at the age of 89. She will forever be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Born in Finley, OK on August 10, 1929 to OC and Maudie McCollough. Joy attended Oklahoma A&M (OSU) and graduated in 1951. Despite her alma mater, she was an avid OU Sooner fan. She married Hermon Clark on December 29, 1951 and they remained married until his passing on October 16, 1993. They had one son, Rick. As a family, they lived in various places including Cushing, OK; Midwest City, OK; and Hobbs, NM before returning to Antlers for the remainder of their lives in 1963. At that time, they purchased Gardner's Grocery and it became Clark's Grocery from 1963 to 1970. Joy was a supervisor at Pushmataha County DHS from 1968 until she retired in 1991. After retirement, she continued doing seasonal work with DHS, as needed, from 1998 to 2012.

A longtime love of crafts and painting led Joy to many craft fairs as a vendor and more so; a shopper. Joy and her son, Rick both had an artistic talent that they shared and bonded over until his death on November 6, 1994.

Although Joy loved to travel with family and friends, there was no place she would rather be than at home in Antlers, OK where she was active in many community activities and events including book club, bridge clubs, and attending the local high school football and basketball games. She had a very strong faith and loved participating in church activities and helping with VBS each summer. Joy had an ever growing collection of snowmen and rabbits that she proudly kept on display year round.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Hermon; her son, Rick; parents OC & Maudie Mccollough; sister, Vivian Wells Meshaya; two brothers, Kenneth & Bob Mccollough; and nephew, Greg Wells

She is survived by her niece, Deborah Holland and her two sons, Jeremy & Zac; nephew, Ron Wells and wife Debby, and their children Kolby, Cody, & Haley; Greg’s children, Sean Wells & Melissa Wells Rivas; Pam Clark Matthews and husband, Jack; Melanie Clark Burgess and husband, Bob; numerous great- great nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as JoJo, AJ, and Aunt Joy; and many dear friends.

Celebration of life for Joy will be held 10 AM January 12, 2019 at the Antlers First Baptist Church With Reverend Aaron Reed and Brent Franks officiating.
