Raymond Branch Obituary

Raymond Glen Branch went to meet the Lord on December 4, 2019 at his home in Antlers, Oklahoma surrounded by his family. He was a member of the Moyers Baptist Church. He was born March 1st, 1936 to Leslie and Mertle Branch in Piercy, Arkansas.

Raymond married Nancy Carol Johnson on January 17, 1966 in Atoka, Oklahoma. They lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas where he was a boss at a screen door plant. Billy Bob Thornton came to work for Raymond at the age of 18 years. He also drove a taxi cab in Hot Springs and met Mickey Rooney while taking him to the horse races. He was a professional truck driver for many years and a long distance driver for Little Dixie, for which he received many awards. He trained several drivers for Robert Julian lumber company and Carl Hatcher Trucking, among many others. He once met George Strait on his horse ranch in Texas, while working for Julian Lumber. They had lunch, toured his home, and got to play Buck Owens guitar that he gave George.

He had many hobbies, such as hunting, fishing, camping, baking homemade bread, making wine, and repairing wooden furniture, but he especially loved playing with his grandchildren. Raymond and Nancy were married 53 years and had a large, loving family and many friends. He had many stories to share from all of his adventures.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents: Leslie and Mertle Branch; grandparents: Dillon and Annie Branch; brother Freddie Burl Branch; and his half-sister Wanda Joann Stanley.

He is survived by his wife Nancy C. Branch of the home; children: Claudette McCullar, Ramona Ann Branch, and Raymond Glen Branch II; brother: Phillip Eugene Branch; step-brother: Henry Armstrong; sisters: Doris Lee Beach, Lillie Jene Johnson, Elizabeth Ann Sweet, Brenda Joice Keener; and Deborah Ann Jones; step-sister: Sharon Levon Moore and Alta Jean Melton; grandchildren: Matthew Dean Thompson, Shannon Lee Dunkin, Michael Allen Fletcher, Curtis Michael Riley II, Krystin Michelle Riley, Kody Ray Branch, Aaron Mitchell Branch, Emma Mae Branch,and Jordan Lee Branch; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A celebration of Raymond's life will be held at a later date.
