Virginia Sorrells-Collins Obituary

Virginia Lorene Sorrells-Collins was born March 23, 1947 at a logging camp in Capitan, Lincoln County, New Mexico to Charles Leroy Sorrells and Olive Marion Adkisson. She passed away on September 22, 2018 in the home that she loved in Antlers, Oklahoma. She was one of 13 children, number nine in birth order and the first of five girls.

During her youth, Virginia’s family moved often, generally through the Western United States. Though her formal education suffered from the family’s constant moving from place to place, her informal education was extensive. She had lived in more places and areas than almost anyone else she had ever met.

During her life Jenny worked at many jobs. Some of which included: Teamster, where she worked with trucks and heavy equipment to build a nuclear power plant, road building, and dam construction.

Virginia and her husband Lloyd Collins have been together for the past twenty-two years, having been apart only when she was tending to her mother, brother, and sister in their final times. Her favorite pastime was leisurely fishing for crappie or sand bass on the Kiamichi River with Lloyd.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents: Charles Leroy and Olive Sorrells; Brothers: Charles Mainard Sorrells, Amos Lionel Sorrells, Darrell Douglas Sorrells, Marshall Lewis Sorrells, and Roy Paul Sorrells: sister Barbara Sue Mitchell: and brother-in-law James Illapottubbee.

She is survived by her husband of the home: Lloyd Collins; brothers: Donald Ray Sorrells and wife Elizabeth of Antlers, Oklahoma, Leon Carl Sorrells and wife Donna of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Hoy Wayne Sorrells and wife Carol of Wilcox Arizona; and sisters: Debra Juanita Vincent and husband Daniel of Phoenix, Arizona, Linda Mack and husband Ricky of Antlers, and Mona Illapotubbee of Tuttle, Oklahoma.

Although she had no natural children of her own, Jenny had several step children that she loved dearly. She is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one great grandchild, Byron Glenn III.

Family night will be Wednesday, 6-8 pm at the Serenity Funeral Service chapel. Services will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 2PM at Serenity Funeral Service Chapel. Virginia will be laid to rest at Butler Cemetery in Lane, Oklahoma.
