Barbara Pruett Obituary

Barbara Jean (Gentry) Pruett, 79, went to be with The Lord on June 10, 2024. She was born on December 9, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan to Alfred and Annie Gentry.

Barbara grew up around North Texas, picking cotton, and working in the onion shed. She met the love of her life, RC Pruett, while working at the local movie theater. After graduating from Farmersville High School, they married on July 24,1964. In 1966 Barbara and RC purchased Pruett's Grocery in Copeville, Texas before moving to Antlers, Oklahoma in 1970 and opening Pruett's Food on the North Side of town by the old feed store. In 1976 they moved to the current location in The East Town Village shopping center.

Especially in the beginning, Barbara worked in all areas of the store, cash register, meat market,
etc., meeting friends, neighbors, coworkers, that would last a lifetime. Barbara enjoyed being a member of First Baptist Church of Antlers, ESA sorority, President of Twentieth Century Women organization, Alumni of Southeastern Oklahoma University (going back and getting her college degree at the age of 45) and in later years Bridge Club and Book Club. Though living in small towns her entire life, Barbara traveled the world with her family and friends. She enjoyed the history, beauty and people of God's creation. What Barbara enjoyed most was spending time with family. She worked hard to give her family wonderful memories, especially at Christmas and 4th of July, when her decorating skills shined.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Annie Gentry; brother: Alfred Jr. Gentry; father-n-law and mother-n-law: Raymon and Jewell Pruett; brother-n-law: Tom Perkins; nephew: Jeremey Pruett and niece: Rhonda Gentry.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years RC Pruett; daughters: Shannon Pruett and Stacie Pruett Rodriguez and husband Mario; son: Ray Pruett and wife Marcy; grandchildren:
Mollie Pruett, Graham Pruett, Eli Pruett, Jewell Rodriguez and Sid Rodriguez; In-laws
(sisters/bothers of the heart): Lavada Perkins, Oleta and Wendall McGuire and Dwight Pruett. Along with a host of wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
