Buddy Dunlap was one of the last remaining Mountain Men. In his younger days he could be found checking his trot lines on Little River, or chasing a coon-hound, hog dog or beagle. He loved God's beautiful creation of the outdoors. He could also be found giving someone a good "hu-roing" (teasing). He had a laugh that was unique to only him, and a few other Dunlaps. Buddy also had a heart for others in need, he would give you the shirt off his back, or the deer he just shot. He knew these mountains like no one I've ever seen. I've never seen him lost, and if Buddy was here today he would tell you that you are lost if you don't have Jesus Christ in your heart. In his later years, he could be found in that old swing, widdling, and watching his deer, chicken, and squirrels.
Even at the end when Buddy was weak, he would still crack that ornery grin and crack a joke to make you laugh. Although Buddy is not here with us, he isn't gone. He just saddled his horse. gathered his hounds, and went to the happy hunting ground.
