Charles Delbert Gernand

Charles Delbert Gernand, Jr., of Antlers, passed from this life on March 18, 2021. He was born south of Antlers on Sept. 24, 1935, to Delbert and Laura Edith (Jones) Gernand.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters, Donna Hyde, Joan Head, Jane Love and Lorelei Curry.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Akins) Gernand, a daughter, Mary Lynne Cooper (husband Earl) of Norman, and a son, Bradley E. Gernand of Durant. He is also survived by a sister, Nadine Self of Hugo and by two grandchildren, Miranda Cooper Beatty of Norman and Megan Cooper Moiser of Ada, and by three great-grandchildren: Cooper Beatty, Archer Beatty, and Barrett Charles Beatty. Barrett Charles was named in Charles's honor.

Charles, a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a building contractor. At the time of his passing he and Mary Ellen had been married for 66 years.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Cremation services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service in Antlers, Oklahoma.
