Custer Lance Martinez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023, in Finley, Oklahoma. Born on June 14, 1946, in Crownpoint, New Mexico, he lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
Custer was a man of many talents and interests, but his greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eugenia Martinez, who he married on September 3, 1968, at the Old Cedar Church in Finley, Oklahoma. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with mutual respect, shared dreams, and an unbreakable bond. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Catherine Martinez of Finley, Oklahoma and Anthony Martinez, who married Misty of Blanco, Oklahoma. Custer was a proud and doting father, always there to offer guidance, support, and a warm hug.
In addition to his wife and children, Custer leaves behind his sister, Rosie Armstrong of Farmington, New Mexico; brother: Curtis Martinez of Farmington, New Mexico. He was a loving grandfather to Nizhoni Martinez and boyfriend Chris Burns of Paris, Texas and Rosiemae Burns and husband Jonas Burns; great grandchildren: KeeAna Martinez, Naomi Martinez, Jatavis Hodge and Izabella Battiest; along with special family friend Tia Battiest. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His love, wisdom, and kindness will continue to live on through his family.
Custer was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Marie (Bitsilly) Martinez; sister: Virginia Henry; daughter: Regina Martinez.
Custer was a dedicated worker, spending many years with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He was a valued member of the sign crew until his retirement. His work ethic and dedication were admired by his colleagues, and his friendly demeanor made him a favorite among his coworkers. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his commitment to his family and community.
Custer was a longtime resident of Finley, Oklahoma, where he lived for the past 54 years. He was an active member of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a friendly smile. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending his free time golfing. Custer also had a fondness for the excitement of the casino, where he was known for his good luck and jovial spirit.
Custer Lance Martinez was a man of integrity, kindness, and love. His life was a testament to the power of family, hard work, and a positive outlook. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. His memory will be cherished, and his life celebrated, as a man who truly made a difference in the lives of those around him.
Family night for Custer will be Sunday July 16, 2023 at Serenity Funeral Service from 6-8 PM.
Graveside services for Custer will be held 10 AM Tuesday July 18, 2023 at Old Cedar Cemetery in Finley, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service in Antlers, Oklahoma.
