Delores Ann Shilling Obituary

Delores Ann Shilling, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, graced this world with her presence on October 10, 1943, in Antlers, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024 at the age of 81, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her life was marked by the love she gave and received, the joys of her family, and the passion with which she pursued her interests.

Raised in Antlers, Delores built a life rich in tradition and warmth. On December 31, 1960, she married her beloved William Carl Shilling in Moyers, Oklahoma, embarking on a journey of love and partnership until his passing. Delores was the proud matriarch, leaving behind a legacy of children, Scarlet Scarberry of Nashoba, Patty Tucker and husband Martin of Durant, Candida Thurman and husband Ellis of Cloudy, and Carla Antu and husband John of Antlers; and a sister, Linda Sousa, and husband Pete of Yukon.

Those who knew Delores admired her for her creativity and skillful hands, which found their expression in sewing, quilting, and embroidering. She took great pleasure in cooking, not only as a means to feed her family but as an expression of her love. Delores's competitive spirit shone through during countless games of cards, dominoes, and wahoo, creating lasting memories with those she played with. Her keen eye for unique finds made thrifting an adventure she always looked forward to.

The light of Delores's life was her family, with whom she spent innumerable cherished moments. Her grandchildren, Carl Crites and wife Mandy, Anthony Williams and wife Ashten, Chelsea Dill, Camryn Tucker, Brittney Kitchel, Misty Wilder and husband Jonathan, Daylan Henderson and wife Whisper, Ryley Milam and husband Colten, and Jaylee Antu, will carry her strength and love forward. Her great-grandchildren, Jaden, Charlee, Marley, Jagger, Ally, Cash, Ashtyn, Brody, Tanner, Tucker, Heston, Hardy, Tucker, Ryder, Holland, Hattie Rose, Rhett, Caisley, Rynley, Callyn, and Ridge, as well as great-great-grandchildren Rowen and Wylen, will grow up with stories of their great-grandmother's warmth and wisdom.

Delores's faith played a significant role in her life. She lived her beliefs through action, embracing the principles of the Baptist church. Her community involvement included spirited participation in the Kiamichi Saddle Club, where her love for camaraderie and horses brought her great joy.

Preceded in death by her parents, LC and Mable Delores (Hamby) Decker; her devoted husband, William Carl Shilling; her brother, Louie Decker; and her son-in-law, Darrell Scarberry, Delores leaves a void that will be felt deeply by those who knew her.
