Elverta McCary Obituary

Elverta JoAnna McCary peacefully passed away in Hugo, Oklahoma, on July 2, 2021.

Elverta was born on November 16, 1926, in Bethel, Oklahoma, to Chester and Flossie (Roebuck) Carter. She had four brothers and three sisters.

She married the love of her life, J.C. McCary, on September 25, 1943, in Antlers, Oklahoma. While the family lived in Oklahoma, three sons were born, James, Michael (Mickey) and Robert. The family moved to Mesa, Washington, in 1958 on a Federal land draw where they lived and farmed for the next 25 years. During this time, the family was blessed with two daughters, Mary Ann and Charolette. J.C. and Elverta also lived in Sisters, Oregon, for a period of time.

In 1988, Elverta and J.C. moved back to Oklahoma for good. They enjoyed their retirement years in Oklahoma until J.C.’s death in 1998. Elverta continued to take care of the homestead and live in Oklahoma until the time of her death.

Elverta was a loving and kind daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She was an exceptional cook, loved to sew, and was a master gardener. She took great pride in her home both inside and out, taking care of her acreage by herself until just the last few years of her life. Most times when you would speak with her, she was outside weeding her flowers or just coming inside after spending time taking care of her yard. She also loved being involved in the Antlers Church of the Nazerene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, a sister, her beloved husband J.C., son Mickey, grandson Kevin McCary, and great grandsons Daniel Blanchard and Shawn McCary.

She leaves behind four children: James (Dawn) McCary of Dayton, Washington; Robert (Sheila) McCary of Kennewick, WA; Mary McPage (Evan Geller) of Everett, WA; and Charlotte McCary of Kennewick, WA; brother Harold Carter; and sisters Verlon Rosenthal, Darlene Bidwell.

She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Elverta will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
