Duane Polk of Smithville, OK passed from this life on August 30, 2021 in Paris, TX at the age of 86. He was born in Grandfield, OK on January 28, 1935 to Harvey Leroy Polk and Beulah (McDowell) Polk. Duane married Sue Vanderbilt on December 7, 1953 in Ardmore, OK.
Duane proudly served as a Sergeant of the United States Army. After his discharge, he returned to Oklahoma to finish his bachelors degree. He worked as an agent for the ABLE Commission of Oklahoma, eventually becoming a school teacher. Duane was of the Baptist Faith and was active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Harvey and Beulah Polk; and a son: David Polk.
Duane is survived by his wife: Sue Polk of the home; children: Dane Polk of Clayton, OK; Pam Polk of Collinsville, OK, Jill Polk of Durant, OK, Dru Polk and wife Laticha of Smithville, OK; grandchildren: Jason Carper and wife Chasity of Durant, OK, Traye Green of Tahlequah, OK, Chaz Polk and wife Kelley of Durant, OK, Hunter Polk and wife Lillie of Mustang, OK, Matt Polk and wife Emilie of Edmond, OK, Kaitlin Polk of Memphis, TN, and Tori Polk and Lizzi Polk of Smithville, OK; great-grandchildren: Darian Alpin and husband Zach of Norman, OK, Ky Carper of Boulder, CO, Cruz and Reese Carper of Durant, OK, Callie Gray, Addison Polk, Aiden Polk, and Channing Polk of Durant, OK, Ashton and Quade Polk of Mustang, OK, Davy Polk of Edmond, OK, Jordan Green of Mangum, OK, and Serenity Green of Tahlequah, OK.
Services for Duane will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 2PM at Octavia Baptist Church with Ed Rogers and Cody McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow at Octavia Cemetery with honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard. Pallbearers include Jason Carper, Chaz Polk, Hunter Polk, Matt Polk, Jeremy Brothers, and Traye Green. Honorary pallbearers will include: Mike McCoy, Curtis McDaniel, Stacy Nichols, and Delbert McBroom.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kiamichi Baptist Assembly, or a local youth organization.
