J.L Savage was born March 12, 1938 in Finley, OK to W.C. "Tooter" Savage and Bennie E. Ridpath. He passed from this life on December 18, 2024 at the age of 86.
J.L. served his country in the US Army Reserves from 1955-1963. J.L. spent 7.5 years in the West Texas oil fields before returning to the Finley area where he was a logging contractor for Dierks and Weyerhaeuser for 35 years. He cherished his family and time spent with them. Some of his favorite times were spent taking trips to the Rocky Mountains with his sons and grandsons. J.L. enjoyed antiquing with his wife before her passing. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents: W.C. and Bennie Savage; wife: Mary Jo Savage; brothers: Herbert Savage and Claude Savage; sisters: Kanzada Phipps and Johnnie Sue Pace; and son-in-law: Don Jay Simpson.
J.L. is survived by his daughter: Jennie Simpson; sons: W.C. "Bill" Savage and wife Andrea, and John Rodger Savage and wife Crystal; grandchildren: Chad Savage and wife Jennifer, Gavin Savage and significant other Jacqueline, Justin Simpson and wife Katy, John Robert Savage and wife Lydia, Dakota Savage and significant other Carra, Rachel Chuculate and husband Levi, and Dalton Savage and significant other Cassidy; great-grandchildren: Clancy, Whitley, Owen, Claire, Jace, Brooke, Lauren, and Parker; siblings: C.T. (Drake) Savage, Sharri McIntosh, Linda Thomas and husband Don; sister-in-law: Betty Boatright and husband Allen; brothers-in-law: A.L. Jackson, Jr. and Larry Jackson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2-4PM at Serenity Funeral Service. Funeral service will take place on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 3PM at the One Creek Valley Baptist Church with Phillip Savage and Andy Johnson officiating. Pallbearers include: Chad Savage, Gavin Savage, Justin Simpson, Dakota Savage, John Robert Savage, Dalton Savage, and Levi Chuculate. Honorary pallbearers are: Charlie Garrison, Hank Garrison, Roger Wright, Bob Carter, Ray House, A.L. Jackson Jr., Larry Jackson, Allen Boatright, Jim O'Brien, Don Thomas, and Buddy Savage. Interment will follow at Finley Cemetery.
Service are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers.
