Janice Elaine Baker Obituary

Janice Elaine "Janie" Baker, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away on January 30, 2024, in Antlers, Oklahoma, at the age of 73. Born on July 13, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Reverend Hurshel "H.L." Morrison and Wilma (Roach) Morrison, her life was a testament to her sweet and loving spirit and dedication to her family and community.

Janie's commitment to her community shone brightly through her willingness to lend a helping hand to others. Her musical talents graced many, as she took music lessons and served as the church organist for many years, an honor bestowed upon her by her father, who depended on her for every service. Janie sang with the school and church choirs, her beautiful voice contributing to the Church Trio's first-place victory in the Assembly of God State Arts Contest. Her love for music and service extended beyond the borders of her small hometown, as she participated in two mission trips with Oklahoma Youth to Monterrey, Mexico.

After graduating from high school, she pursued her dream for beauty and hairstyling by completing her studies at the Edna Hennessee School of Beauty in Lawton. Her dream was fully realized with the establishment of her own salon, Janie's Beauty Shop in Antlers, OK, where she joyfully styled and chatted with clients until joining her husband in military life after their marriage on June 22, 1973.

Janie's life was filled with interests including shopping and cooking. Yet, nothing brought her more joy spending precious time with her grandchildren.
Janie is preceded in death by her parents: Reverend Hurshel Morrison and Wilma (Roach) Morrison; daughter: Heather Renee Baker; mother-in-law: Pauline Salazar; father-in-law: Faye Baker; and many other loved ones that she deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband: Anthony "Tony" Baker of the home; daughter: Shana Head and husband Greg of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren: Ashleigh Head, Colin Head and wife Kaley, Audrey Head, and Paige Head; and great-grandson: Cortez "Levi" Bush. Her memory will also be fondly remembered by her sisters: Loretta Gather of Antlers, OK, Sharon Coleman of Antlers, OK, and Beverly Horton with husband Edwin of Coweta, OK; as well as a host of other beloved family members and friends, who will deeply miss Janie's loving presence.

As we say goodbye to Janie Baker, we celebrate the legacy she leaves behind-a legacy defined by enduring love, her sweet spirit, and selfless service. Though she may have left her Earthly home, she will forever live on in the hearts of all that love her.

A Family Night will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 3-5PM at Serenity Funeral Service. Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 2PM with Brother Robert Weeks officiating. Janie will be laid to rest next to her daughter Heather at Antlers City Cemetery.
