John's early years in Garberville laid the foundation for a life rich in family values and outdoor adventures. He carried this love for the natural world throughout his life, often found fishing, playing baseball, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the river. John's passion for music was another thread in the fabric of his life; he found joy in playing his guitar, listening to a wide variety of music, rapping, and sharing these moments with those he loved.
After graduating from Haworth High School in 2008, John channeled his hardworking spirit into a fulfilling career as a carpenter. His dedication to his craft was paralleled only by his dedication to his family and friends. John's selfless nature made him a pillar in the lives of his daughters, Acelyn and Grayce, who were the center of his world. He was a constant presence in their lives, guiding them with love and instilling in them the values of compassion and integrity.
John's Christian faith served as the cornerstone of his existence, shaping not only his beliefs but also his everyday actions and the way he interacted with others. This deep-rooted faith was evident in all aspects of his life, guiding him through both challenges and celebrations. He embraced the principle that "it is more blessed to give than to receive," as found in Acts 20:35, and allowed this belief to become a guiding mantra for his character.
He leaves behind his daughters, Acelyn and Grayce; his mother, Glenda Cockrill and fiance Wayne Stanley; his brother, Dylan Cockrill; his sister-in-law, Christy Cockrill; his sister, Angie Armstrong; his sister, Cindy Cockrill; his sister, Nancy Doss his sister, Jessica Haury; his brother in-law, Derrick Haury; his aunt, Anna Grimes; his aunt, Juanita Satterfield; his uncle, Dan Paterson; his uncle Gary Satterfield; his niece, Kashlynn Level; his nephew, Jackson Level; his niece, Patience Haury; his niece Makennica Haury; his nephew, Raiden Haury; nephew, Jagger Armstrong; and his nephew,Jason Spaulding; his niece Brianna Spaulding.
As well as numerous other family members and friends who loved him deeply.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Calvin Cockrill Sr.; his grandmother Olamae Satterfield; his grandfather Coleman Felihkatubbe; his grandmother Melvia Cockrill; his grandfather Henry Calvin Cockrill; his brother, Christopher Armstrong; his sister, Johnnie Sue Hill; his aunt, Helen Satterfield; and his uncle, Robert Grimes.
John's life was marked by his ability to bring people together, whether it was working on his truck with his brother Dylan, playing video games with friends, or simply sharing a laugh. His legacy is one of unwavering love and selflessness, a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those he has left behind.
As we bid farewell to John, we remember the words of Babe Ruth “Hero’s get remembered, but legends never die.” John's spirit, his unwavering love, and his faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a gift, and though he has departed from our sight, he will never depart from our hearts.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 2PM at the Serenity Funeral Service Chapel in Antlers, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Grimes - Satterfield Cemetery in Lane, Oklahoma.
