John R. Martin, a long time resident of Finley, OK, passed on from this life on July 29, 2023. He was born on November 8, 1941 in Finley, OK to John William and Lola Mae Martin. His charm, personality, and perfectly timed humor will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
After an honorable service in the United States Navy, John made a career as an international sales coordinator for a drilling tools company. His fervor for hard work and dedication earned him great respect. He was a cherished member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Above all, John cherished his family and friends. He was always up for company coming and nothing pleased him more than to get a visit from you. He enjoyed spending time with Gloria Moore, his girlfriend of many years.
A natural problem solver, John R. loved to tinker; there was no odd job or tricky fix he wouldn't tackle. He was an accomplished and seasoned barterer, from the sale barn to the flea market. He enjoyed his cattle business immensely during his retirement.
John is preceded in death by his son: John R. Martin II; grandson: Jonathan Wimberly; brother: Terry J. Martin; sisters: LaGuene Crawford and Bontzy Black; and parents: John William and Lola Martin.
He is survived by his children Kim K. Crawford, Tracy L. Wilson, Troy A. Martin, John W. Martin, his wife Ashley, and honorary son Joe Wilson, all of Houston, TX; sister: Debbie L. Poulson and husband Steve of Burleson, TX; and grandchildren: Michael Wimberly, Joseph Wilson II, Cory Wilson, Shandi Moore, Travis Wilson, Riley Martin, and John Michael Martin. John's legacy also survives in the joy of sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A family night will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 6-8PM at Serenity Funeral Service. Graveside services will take place at 10AM, Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Finley Cemetery with Brent Franks officiating. Honorary pallbearers include: J.W. Martin, Joseph Wilson II, Cory Wilson, Travis Wilson, Douglas Martin, Brandon Martin, Zachary Martin, and Joseph Wilson.
Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers.
