John Woods passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 28, 2023, in Antlers, Oklahoma. Born on September 17, 1949, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, John led a full and inspirational life that touched the hearts of countless people.
John is preceded in death by his parents: Johnnie and Ruby (Jones) Woods; his two brothers; his son: Tony Cantrell; and daughters: Tina Gant and Tracy Cantrell.
He is survived by his beloved wife: Thelma Woods; and children: Timothy Cantrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tammy Cantrell-Hill of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brian Woods of Antlers, Oklahoma, and Stacy Cantrell of Antlers, Oklahoma. John's family also includes his brothers: Maxwell Lynn of Oregon, Mike Lynn of California, Junior Woods of Mississippi, Charles Woods of Mississippi, and Shane Sinex of Checotah, OK; 15 cherished grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In 1998, John's life changed forever when he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. From that moment, he dedicated himself to spreading the good news and ministering to others about Jehovah God and the hope for the future. John became an active member of the congregation, attending countless meetings and conventions year after year. His unwavering faith and devotion to serving Jehovah were always apparent, and he took every opportunity to teach others about the powerful message of hope and salvation. One of John's greatest pleasures was spending time with his fellow brothers and sisters from his congregation, sharing stories, laughter, and comfort with one another. He also had a strong love for the service ministry, where he excelled in teaching and nurturing others.
John's educational achievements include earning an Associate's Degree in General Education from Northeastern Oklahoma College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Throughout his life, John worked as a dedicated police officer and security guard. While working tirelessly, he also made time for the things he loved most. It was during this period that he discovered his passion for fishing with friends and family and enjoyed many blissful days at his favorite fishing spots. Always seeking adventure, he also relished riding motorbikes and hiking in nature, where he found solace and connection to the world around him.
John's curiosity and talent for working with his hands brought joy not only to himself but also to the people whose lives he touched. From woodworking to tinkering with cars, there was always a new project or task that piqued his interest. He also channeled his love for the outdoors into gardening.
Services for John will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2PM at Kingdom Hall in Antlers, Oklahoma.
Cremation services have been entrusted with Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers, Oklahoma.
