Obituary

Almus Leon Chappell, 83 of Antlers, went to be with his Lord on May 29, 2022. He was born on March 15, 1939 in Spencerville, OK to Almus A. Chappell and Ila (Harris) Chappell.

Leon married Kathy Weger on October 17, 1983 in Paris, TX. He enjoyed a career with Ford Motor Company in Chicago, IL before moving back home to eventually retire from Campbell's Soup. Leon was a dedicated rancher, who poured his heart into the land he worked. He was a true storyteller, always ready to entertain anyone who would listen. Leon loved his horses, classic cars, going to eat fish, and going on short trips. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family, always with his best dog Sheba at his side.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents: Almus and Ila Chappell; brothers: Curtis Chappell and Gary Chappell; and sisters: Betty Jo Lanier and Patsy Stout.

He is survived by his wife: Kathy Chappell of the home; children: Monty Chappell and wife Denice of Runaway Bay, TX, Jody Chappell and wife Vickey of Golden, OK, Lori Sackett of Calera, OK, and Stephanie Carlton and husband Eddie of Bokchito, OK; sisters: Sue Davenport of Jacksonville, TX and Mary Lundblad of Olympia, WA; grandchildren: Shalan Prince and husband Wesley of Valliant, OK, Keith Sackett of Calera, OK, Haylie Mata and husband Rey of Boswell, OK, Chase Chappell of Fort Worth, TX, and Christian McGowan of Bokchito, OK; and great-grandchildren: Ryker Prince, Rogan Prince, and Cheyenne Mata.

Services for Leon will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 2PM at the Serenity Funeral Service Chapel with Brent Franks officiating. Interment will follow at Spencerville Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Keith Sackett, Christian McGowan, Rey Mata, Eddie Carlton, Danny Gregg, and Jose Morales.

Services have been entrusted with Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers.
