Leona Martin Obituary

Leona was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on January 4th, 1934 to Leonard and Florida Sherrer of Snow, Okla. She passed from this life in Kansas City, Kansas on November 9, 2021 at the age of 87.
She attended Snow School for 8 years and Antlers High school for 4 years. She was a member of the graduating class of 1952 there. She remained active in the 4-H club at Snow and played basketball on the team at Antlers High.
She married Perry L. Martin of Antlers, Okla. on August 4th, 1952.
She had two children, Hy and Fonda Jo, with three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Kansas University, earning her bachelor degree in elementary education.
She had a Masters Degree from Emporia State University and held an Administrative degree from Kansas University.
She worked for Shawnee Mission U.S.D. #512 for 29 years. Eight years as a teacher, Eight years as a science Resource teacher and thirteen years as an elementary school principal at Crestview Elementary. Her school children were her life.
She was an active member at Lenexa Baptist Church until she could no longer drive to church.
She then became an on-line participant worshipping every Sunday on-line.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Florida Sherrer, husband Perry L. Martin, and Brother Millard Leonard Sherrer.
Services for Leona will be Saturday November 13, 2021 at Serenity Funeral Service in Antlers, Oklahoma. Viewing will be at 10 Am with the service following at 11 AM, Burial will follow at Finley Cemetery.
