Louise Redman Obituary

Louise Amanda (Torp) Redman, 90, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Paris Regional Hospital in Paris, Texas. She was born June 2, 1928 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Klemet Marius Olson and Anne Sutherland (Guthrie) Torp.

Louise met the love of her life, William B. Redman, while she was serving her country at Ft. Carson, Colorado as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army.  The two eloped to Raton, New Mexico on June 25, 1954, and were happily married for 37 years until his passing in 1991. During her time in the military, Louise served as a physical therapist.

Later, Louise and Bill moved back to Oklahoma, where she became a teacher. She taught at Nashoba, Rattan and then taught Sophomore English at Antlers Public Schools for over thirty years, until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pushmataha County Retired Teachers Association and the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association.  She was a resident of the Antlers area for 62 years and was loved by her community, as well as her hundreds of former students.  Louise will be missed by all who knew her.

Louise Redman was preceded in death by her husband: William B. Redman; parents: Klemet O. and Anne Sutherland Torp; two sisters: Elizabeth T. Hinkle and Mary Jane Torp; one brother: Thaddeus L. Torp.  She is survived by her three sons: William A. Redman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, John L. Redman and wife Emily of Durant, Oklahoma and Walter Myrl Redman and wife Annette of Antlers, Oklahoma; her twin brother: Guthrie L. “Bud” Torp of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren: A.J. Redman and Walker Redman of Durant, Dusty Joslin of Ada, and Braedey Redman and Brancen Redman both of Antlers; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Services for Louise will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Antlers Church of Christ with Brent Franks officiating.  Interment will follow at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Antlers. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the Antlers High School Scholarship Fund, attn:  Melinda Martin, Antlers High School, 219 NE A Street, Antlers, OK  74523.
