Marshall Dewayne McGuire Obituary

Marshall Dewayne "Possum" McGuire was born to Bill McGuire and Edna McGuire on December 5, 1961 in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. He passed from this life in Antlers, Oklahoma on August 12, 2024. He was a lifetime resident of Southeast Oklahoma.

Possum entered into the Army National Guard in 1980, and eventually returned home to his Antlers roots. He was an outdoorsman at heart, and loved hunting and fishing. Possum also loved tinkering with old vehicles, riding in his 6x6, and going to the casino from time to time. He truly loved his dogs. Possum was a member of the Kiamichi Wilderness Fire Department, first as a firefighter, then moving up to Fire Chief.

He is preceded in death by his daughter: Samantha Marcia Dianne Rhodes; father Bill McGuire; mother: Edna Blackwell; paternal grandfather: Jack Waters; paternal grandmother: Mary Upton; Maternal Grandmother: Dora Mae Key; maternal grandfather: Lloyd Orm; brothers: Billy McGuire and Donny McGuire; and paternal stepgrandad: Dave Upton.

Possum is survived by his wife: Virginia (Montgomery) McGuire of the home; children: Marshall Alan McGuire of Springdale, AR, and Renae McGuire of Vinita, OK; sisters: Mary DeZuani of Newalla, OK, and Anna Malone of Poteau, OK; grandchild: Aaron Alan McGuire of Springdale, AR; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10AM at Serenity Funeral Service in Antlers. Interment will follow at Antlers City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Choctaw Nation Honor Guard. Pallbearers include: Aaron Alan McGuire, Michael Walker, Danny Mitchell, Marshall McGuire, and G.W. Pigg.
