Nelson Wright Obituary
Nelson Doyle Wright was born on May 13, 1941, in Henrietta, Texas. In his early years, his parents moved the family to Dallas where they remained the rest of their lives.
As a boy growing up in Cockrell Hill and West Dallas, Doyle was active in sports and often worked alongside his Dad. At the age of 16, Doyle accepted Jesus Christ at the Eagle Ford Mission under the ministry of Bill Harrod. He attended and graduated from Crozier Technical High School in Dallas, Texas in 1959.
On July 22, 1966, Doyle married Troyce Irene Pool of Oklahoma. They began their lives in Cockrell Hill where they had their two children, Rodney and Rhonda. The family later moved to Oak Cliff in 1974 before Doyle and Troyce made their last move to Lancaster, TX.
Soon after the birth of their first child they became active church members, first attending Cockrell Hill Baptist Church and in 1981 became members of Hillcrest Baptist Church where they both served faithfully for over 40 years.
Doyle learned hard work from his parents and had a long career with Dresser Industries (later Halliburton) where he was employed for almost 40 years prior to retiring in 2004. Most people he worked with did not know his real name. He simply became known as “Lightning”. A name bestowed upon him because of how fast he ran while playing on his work sponsored softball team.
Doyle loved to have fun and he never missed an opportunity to joke around with others. Where joy was, he wanted to be a part of it and he wanted to share it with others. He was a constant source of laughter and happiness. This was never more evident than with his church friends and family. His nieces and nephews eventually began calling him Uncle Crazy because he was always engaging with them in silly antics.
No one experienced his love more than his family and you could see the impact of his love for them because on the evening of Wednesday, April 20, 2022, he was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren as he went home to be with Jesus.
Those left to cherish his memory included his wife of 55 years, Troyce, his son Rodney and his wife Suzanne, his daughter Rhonda as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren, Brianna and her daughter Zoe, Tiffany and her daughters Maiya and Amoni, Connor, Ryan, Natalie and her husband Josh and son Ezra, Candace and her daughter Azariah, Allyah and her sons Mason and Isaiah Jr.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Merrell Willie Wright and Mary Lucile (Manning) Wright. his brother and sister-in-law, Billy Merrell Wright and Julia Wright. They had a daughter Marguerite Wright, Doyle’s niece, who now lives in Houston Texas.
Doyle Wright left his mark on this earth that will long be remembered.
He will be laid to rest 1 pm Tuesday April 26, 2022 at the Finely Cemetery in Finley, OK.
