Nevada Lorraine (Harkey) Lasater was born February 24, 1920 at Avery, Texas, the daughter of Minnie Lee and William Riley Harkey. She passed on to Heaven at the age of 100 following an unfortunate fall in August 2019 that ultimately led to her death November 10, 2020.
Nevada was married May 23, 1944 in Watsonville, California, to Weldon J Lasater who preceded
her in death in 1982. They were residents of Durant, Oklahoma, since 1958 when Weldon
retired from the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. They had two children, Daniel R
Lasater, DDS who preceded her in death in 1997 and John D Lasater, MD.
Nevada was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma until moving to
Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1997 becoming a member of the First Baptist Church in
Albuquerque. She moved to Newport News, Virginia in 2015 to be near her son John who
practices urology in the Tidewater Area of Virginia and actively played piano for worship
services at her independent living facility, The Arbors, until the summer of 2019.
Her survivors include her son, John Lasater and wife Susan of Trent Woods, NC, daughter-in-law
Pam Lasater wife of Dan Lasater (deceased) of Tulsa, OK, Granddaughters - Morgan Lasater, MD and husband Doug Kelly, MD of Norfolk, VA with two great grandchildren John Kelly and
Caroline Kelly, Courtney Lasater and husband Chris Hammon of Houston, TX with great
grandchild Caileigh Hammon, and Gentry Lasater, DDS and husband Warren Byrd, DDS of
Raleigh, NC, and niece Roberta Himebrook of Bandera, TX.
Nevada will be laid to rest with Graveside Service scheduled for Monday, November 23, 2020
10:00 AM at the Oddfellows Cemetery Antlers, Oklahoma. Officiating the service will be Jacob
Toews of Calera, Oklahoma.
