Rebecca Jane "Janie" Choate was born Feb. 12, 1958.
Janie passed away Nov. 12, 2022 with her big sister and mother by her side after a tough fight with cancer. She is reunited with her father Andy where she can continue to watch over her family.
Janie was able to rise to many opportunities. She spent time in France during high school. She was politically active. Her work with the Bill Clinton campaign earned her an invitation to his inauguration. She attended with forever friend Yolanda. She was a supporter of LGBTQ rights.
She attended Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma. She worked for the United States Postal Service in Dallas. Her attention to detail led her to become the assistant to one of the top administrators there.
She moved to Finley after retirement where she became her parents' caregiver. Mom and Dad were in good hands through his illness and the COVID pandemic. Janie's light shone brightest when helping and taking care of others.
Janie helped anyone in need whenever possible.
She loved Christmas and shopping. She offered to do her siblings' shopping because she could find a bargain and get it purchased months before Halloween.
She had exacting standards. Watch the way she prepared broccoli, cheese and rice for family meals. Ask wait staff and cooks how she felt about her breakfast eggs.
She was happy. Janie had a wonderful smile. Don't take our word for it — check out all the photos shared recently on social media. Her smile was especially brilliant when she was standing next to family or friends.
She had three siblings — Jackie, Bud and Ed. But her family was large, especially when you hear how many other people thought of her as a sister.
She loved being Auntie Janie to Holly and Kari. Her heart opened wider as her family grew to include Michael and Briony.
Janie loved a cornicopia of cousins, aunts, uncles and more. She was able to connect deeply with Ted and Lisa and Jonna when she moved to Finley. She was especially close to cousins Michael and Karla.
She grew up with uncles and aunts and cousins always around when we visited Oklahoma. They forged a beautiful spot in her life history.
She especially enjoyed when extended family gathered. We will have another family gathering at a later date to honor her.
She liked casinos. That was well-known by anyone who knew her well. If your next visit results in a jackpot — that was from Janie.
She loved her mom very much. Her dedication was evident in the way Janie took care of mom through everything life has dealt her.
Janie will be missed.
