Obituary

Sommer Kay Barnett, a loving mother, sister, and daughter, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma. Born on July 11, 1978, in Antlers, Oklahoma, Sommer's life was marked by her warm sense of humor, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to her work and passions.

Sommer was the cherished daughter of Doug Barnett and Tonya Johnson, and the adored granddaughter of Laverne Walls. Her love and pride for her family were evident in the close relationships she maintained throughout her life. Sommer's bond with her brother, Eric Barnett, and his wife Krystle of Newcastle, Oklahoma, was unbreakable, and she took great joy in being an aunt to her nieces and nephews: Taybor, Jazelle, Oliver, and Parker. She leaves behind partner Trina Stow, who will forever cherish the love and memories they shared.

A devoted mother, Sommer's greatest accomplishment was her son, Greydon Barnett, of Norman, Oklahoma. Greydon was the light of her life, and she worked hard to provide him with the best possible opportunities and experiences. Her love for Greydon knew no bounds, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever by her son.

Sommer is preceded in death by her grandfathers: Charles "Sonny Boy" Walls and Robert Barnett and grandmother: Jean Barnett.
Sommer was a graduate of Antlers High School. She went to earn her Associate Degree in Information Technology through OSU-OKC. She also utilized her intelligence to carve out a fulfilling career as a Fiber Technician at OEC Fiber. Her colleagues knew her as a hardworking and dedicated professional, always willing to lend a helping hand and share her expertise. Sommer's commitment to her work was matched only by her enthusiasm for her interests outside the office.

A lifelong lover of reading, Sommer could often be found with her nose buried in a book, exploring new worlds and ideas. Her love for the written word was matched by her enjoyment of watching TV, where she delighted in discovering new shows and sharing her favorites with loved ones. Sommer's interests extended to her personal life as well, where she found satisfaction in working on various projects and honing her skills.

Those who knew Sommer best would describe her as loving, funny, and thoughtful. Her kind heart and quick wit endeared her to all who crossed her path, and her ability to find humor in even the most challenging situations was a source of comfort and inspiration to those around her. Sommer's thoughtfulness was evident in the countless ways she supported her friends and family, always putting their needs before her own.

In the wake of her passing, Sommer leaves a legacy of love and laughter that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, her friends, and her community, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.
