Melba Sue Leonard, affectionately known as Sue by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, at the age of 83, in her hometown of Antlers, Oklahoma where she was also born on Christmas Eve in 1940. Sue's rich and fulfilling life was deeply rooted in the town of Antlers, the place she treasured and returned to live her final 30 years, surrounded by the familiar comfort of family and friends.
Sue was the cherished matriarch of a large, loving family. She is survived by her children: son Robert Franks and his wife Amy, daughter Julie Carter and her husband Michael, all of Antlers, and son Michael "Buck" Franks and his wife Traci of Sulphur, Oklahoma. Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of her sisters Elmerine Stone of Antlers, Aliene Musick of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Loretta Ramey of Missoula, Montana. Sue's legacy also shines through her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Dustin Franks, Brittany Buttery, Cassie Wiethorn, Myanna Garrot, Kelly Gage, Wyatt Franks, Tucker Franks, Mason Franks, Brendan Franks, and Alec Franks; as well as her great-grandchildren: Maddie Bates, Bentley Franks, Brighton Franks, Story Franks, Sutton Franks, and Ryker Black. Her spirit is also carried on by the numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives she touched.
Preceding her in death were Sue's beloved parents Elmer and Julia Leonard, her three sisters, and an infant daughter.
Sue dedicated many years of her life providing comfort and care as a nurse aide at various hospitals. She found joy in serving others, whether by offering a healing hand or cooking a delicious meal. She took pleasure in participating in church activities with Fresh Beginnings Church and left a lasting impression on the community through her kindness and selfless nature.
The family would like to thank Kelly Chapman for all the care and attention she has given Sue over the last several months.
Celebration of life for Sue will be held 2pm Thursday January 4, 2024 at Fresh Beginnings Church in Finley, Oklahoma with Pastor Joyce Luman officiating.
Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service and Cremations in Antlers, Oklahoma.
