Thomas Darrell Barnett (1951-2023)
Thomas Darrell Barnett, known as Walter, passed away on May 25, 2023, in Clayton, Oklahoma. Walter was born on August 23, 1951, in Superior, Arizona, and lived his life sharing his many gifts and talents with his community and those he loved.
Walter was truly a handy man; whether it was home improvement projects or building bridges, Walter found satisfaction and happiness in working with his hands. Through his many years working in the concrete construction industry, he was widely respected and became a lifelong expert in his field.
In addition to his skill with construction, Walter was also a United States Veteran; this experience and the values it instilled in him continued to shape his life and reflect in his contributions to society throughout his journey.
Walter was an avid player of the juice harp, a rare skill that showcased his artistic side. Walter's sense of rhythm and joy in the music was contagious. Similarly, his love for dance was infectious, with two-stepping being his favorite. It was not uncommon to find him dancing the night away with Shelly, both of them grinning from ear to ear.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Morris Barnett and Dorthy Jean (Pollard) Barnett; and his sister: Mary Kay Sanders.
Walter is survived by wife: Shelly LeAnn; daughter: Layla Danielle; granddaughter: Trinity Grace; nieces: Kristy and Shayna; as well as a host cousins, aunts, uncles, and relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 11AM at the Serenity Funeral Service Chapel.
