Virginia Mae (McKee) Hammons (94) was born on April 28, 1929, in Mud Sand, Oklahoma to Willie Dan McKee and Minnie Lee (Pickering) McKee. She passed away at her home in Antlers on December 26, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family. She was a lifelong resident of Southeast Oklahoma.
Virginia dedicated her life to family and community, touching many lives with her care as a family planning nurse. She found immense joy in attending her children's and grandchildren's sports activities, celebrating their achievements with pride and love. Virginia was a beloved member of the Choctaw Seniors Organization, where her presence will be deeply missed.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents: Willie and Minnie McKee; one child: Darlene Durant; one grandchild: Dawne Neese; and siblings: Genoma Morrow, Sue Satterfield, and Troy McKee.
She is survived by her children: Russell Gregg of Finley, OK, Danny Gregg and wife Debbie of Antlers, OK, Gary Gregg and Wife Starr of Tuskahoma, OK, Sherry Nickel and husband Ed of Okanogan, WA, Carla Sigler of Antlers, OK, and Randy Hammons and wife Christi of Rattan, OK; brother: Stacy McKee; as well as 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Her legacy is cherished and will be carried on through her loving family. Virginia leaves behind a community grateful for her contributions and a family that will always remember her with love.
A family night will be place on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 6-8PM at Serenity Funeral Service in Antlers. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2PM at Church of Christ Antlers with Brent Franks officiating. Interment will follow at the McKee Smallwood Family Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Gary Bigelow, David Venable, Donnie Gregg, Dusty Gregg, Zack Nickel, Ian Nickel, Dylan Gregg, Jaden Hammons, and Carson Hammons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Virginia's great grandsons.
